[Did it ever occur to you that 'Iraq' is an artificial nation,]

"I'm aware of this. Maybe they do want their own nations. The khurds have indicated they will go along with a single Iraq."

The Kurds only say that publically to keep Turkey off their ass. Unless they get near full autonomy (practically their own government, so the 60% Shia population can't dominate them) then they are 'outta there --- but they need a 'excuse' so Turkey won't be able to come after them.

That 'excuse' will be either over-reaching by the Shiia when they 'elect' a bunch of religious types to run the place... or continual conflict between the Sunni and the Shiia mucking up everything.

If EITHER of the two minority groups drop out --- then the last remaining minority will want out also --- neither Sunni nor Kurd will put up with domination by Iran-leaning Shiia.

And the Sunni are *practically* in a full state of open defiance of the 'central government' right now.

The Sunni areas are moving towards partition from the other areas.

IMO, nationalism is a very strong motivating force, and trying to stand in the way of it's rising tide is a fool's errand.

[We were talking about IRAQ.... You are not even on the right continent!]

"I am referring to what hate does between groups, not giving a geography lesson. Hate divides, separates and weakens.... The hard core lefties are talking about seceeding (sp) here in AMerica. I think that is stupid (and immature). Think how much better it would be if we united and worked together towards an obviously noble goal. But the leftists just want to say why it won't work. Can you see how it relates now?"

Are you talking about IRAQ again, or America?

Or are you proposing that the Middle East hold hands for a round of Kumbaya?

IMO, I believe that Democracy will eventually prevail in the Middle East (especially after the Saudi Royals are eliminated, and the Iranian Mullahs are removed from power)... but that *doesn't* mean that Iraq won't split into 2 or 3 separate countries.

I can easily see a Kurdish democracy, a democratic (sorta) government in the Shiia half of the former Iraq (closely aligned with Iran)... and the Sunni areas merging with Saudi Arabia --- after long civil war first though.
