It was an outrage to everyone who ever received the Nobel Peace Prize when thay gave it to Arafat. It just goes to show that stupidity rules the world these days.

Intifada II was the product of Clinton's appeasement, pressuring Barak to nearly give up all points except the final status of Jerusalem. Arafat thought: "Gee, I can roll them for the whole nine yards", went home, and started a wave of suicide bombings. Of course, he was wrong, and merely brought Ariel Sharon to power. Ariel Sharon's reputation was tainted enough that without a crisis like Intifada II, it is doubtful he could have become PM, much less the leader of a National Unity cabinet........

because he didn't want the kind of compromise state that would have allowed Israel to survive.

I am coming slowly to believe the notion that there will never be peace in the ME. The decades-long indoctrination of Palestinians that Jews are pigs and monkeys, guilty of the blood libel, and other insanities, has been absorbed by the poor dumb clucks for far too long to be easily dislodged.

Arafat is the primary culprit. A truly evil man.

Palestinians may well end up having a state, but they will never peacefully co-exist with Israelis, so the whole "give them a state and everything will be wonderful" argument makes no sense to me.
