This is a pretty old story, at least in North America. Monsanto came up with round-up ready GM wheat at the point they were losing their patent on round-up.
All their contracts for RR seed prohibits saving seed. They have had their people running around checking on farmers for violations.
Not even cross-contamination is permissible. My county passed a ban on growing GM crops in March. One of the people campaigning for it was a Canadian farmer, whose seed became contaminated from the RR wheat next door. Monsanto sued him.
