The French doctors should know what his illness is (he was in hospital for over a week - it would be unlikely that they did not know). The diagnoses listed are simply complications - and not his original problem. The fact that his illness has not been made public (likely the hospital staff would be under orders to respect patient confidentiality) makes the cause of death all the more suspicious (esp with his underlying symptoms).
