There was a discussion several days ago on the stockhouse DMX thread about the brokerage houses being able to borrow your stock in order to short it ...against the owner .
I was talking to a rep at TD this morning, and he said this, was indeed the case for cash and margin accounts.I told him i did not want TD doing this as i felt that I owned the stock, long, and this was going against my interests... they being able to borrow my shares and short them against me.This can not be done in RRSP accounts.
I do not want to take ownership of stock certificates as I have done this years ago and is a very cumbersome procedure.I had brokerage accounts years ago with Bongard Lesley and Dominion and these accounts were "segregated" meaning these shorting moves could not be done.Anyway he is getting back to me.
