The widespread knowledge of the truth would destroy the value of Arafat's memory. By creating controversy, the faithful can choose to ignore the truth. This is similar to American formerly mainstream media (FMSM) trying to deny the truth about Kerry's less than honorable discharge from the Navy. Partisans faced with the truth still deny it.
