I tried lady beetles once to control the aphids on my birches, but I soon gave up due to the billions of aphids in the neighborhood. The best solution is to just water the trees a lot. I wasn't aware that exotics were being used.

The thing I remember about lady bugs from childhood is finding swarms of them on box elder trees. Not sure why they chose those particular trees.
