Amy, Exact same statement I've heard some Christians make about the violent parts of the Christian religion, "oh, just ignore the violent parts of the text."

I'm not advocating ignorance nor selective obedience. Quite the opposite, actually, which makes me wonder whether the Quran could ever fit into modern society.

By the way, the violent parts of the Bible are not there to be emulated. Rather, they are there to remind us of humanity's need for redemption. "Cast the first stone."

There was a news report expressing concern Catholicism is decreasing in numbers overseas. In the USA, it certainly looks like Catholicism is decreasing as women head towards equality in America.

Didn't Patricia Ireland call herself a "Catholic"?
