XBox Next AMD? Probably not, but what about
XBox Next PC using AMD64; when it comes out in 2006? Possibly so.

Xbox Next PC is, according to the presentation, an entry-level PC that runs Windows and all standard PC software. It also includes CD Burner, Wireless keyboard, mouse and controller and will work best connected to a high-definition TV or PC monitor. Media Center functionality - like movies, music and photos - is also included. The device will also play most available PC games.

Cruz,

Although MS showed with the Xbox that nothing is written in stone, it was earlier revealed that the neXtBox (TradeMark Pravin) would use quad PowerPC processors. If so, it will be impossible to suddenly substitute an AMD processor at the last minute. It is also not impossible that they changed the design to AMD some time ago, but I doubt it.

Pravin.

Pravin: I believe this is true for the basic "Xbox next", but this recent Inquirer article indicated that a year after Xbox next (which comes in two flavors, with and without a hard drive) MS will release "Xbox next PC", which is also a full fledged PC, that is powerful enough to run their Media Center software. It is hard to imagine anyone putting up with the performance hit that emulation inflicts, nor would such a product be likely to be successful. I think that this all points to a 64 bit two core x86 CPU, and at that point AMD is a definite candidate.

"A SLIDE from a non disclosure agreement (NDA) presentation seen by the INQ points towards Microsoft launching three versions of the Xbox 2, one of which is a fully functioning PC."

"The year-long gap between the mooted introductions of the two standard Xboxes before the Xbox Next PC is an interesting decision,"

Not if AMD can make it better faster cheaper than IBM...
