Tim Luke. Or so it has been alleged. I have heard differing versions.

And anyone who likes SI better is seriously ill.

I see that Laz answered Tim Luke, and that's my memory, too. So awful. I didn't know him, but had seen his name many times. Some of those whom we see posting on SI are, statistically speaking, going through some really terrible things in their lives. Can you imagine how bad it is if you go out to rob a store, or if you try to sell one of your kidneys on the internet? Someone I used to have big fights with had a momentous surgery. I know he must have been ill for a long time before this surgery. (I no longer engage him; he's had enough stress in his life! May he live long and prosper.)

Sidney Reilly used to use his real name on SI, and I think I recall that one of the reasons he decided to change it was so that his employer or fellow workers wouldn't be able to follow his posts. Good thinking, imo.

P.S. Tonight on HBO, at 8pm EST, there's a movie showing that's supposed to be very good, Master and Commander. Based on the Patrick O'Brian series. 2 1/2 hours. Described in the NYT guide as "stupendously entertaining study of unstinting, diverse manliness." I tried to read the books, which my husband and son strongly recommended, but they were too unstinting in the manliness department. Nautical-type, much technical detail.

The first stalker that I mentioned was an fundie weirdo and he had an obsession. The poor woman just took it for the longest time, until some other SI people, supportive friends of hers, heard about it, and Admin stepped in. Whereupon the guy was told to stop or he'd leave.

Out of curiosity, I just checked his profile. This is his last post on SI.

That sort of creepiness may not be dangerous, but I think it's good enough reason to use an alias!

Back when I used my real name a web search I did for family tree purposes turned up all kinds of religious and political posts I had made on SI. I thought this is not good at all. So I went to an alias. I have never been worried about anyone on SI wanting to find me. But I did worry about my employer, co-workers, and now the alphabet soup of government agencies spying on me.
