The Chesapeake wasn't a triggering event but it was part of the background to war. Without it a few other things its possible that a war wouldn't have happened. There was also a low level naval war with France and the US, there was a lot more complexity to the situation than the simple "they impressed our sailors so we went to war", but that doesn't mean impressment wasn't part of the reason. Also whether this belief was real or imagined many Americans thought the British where stirring up Indian raids against the American frontier.

Yes the desire for land by the "war hawks" was part of the equasion as well, both disputed borders, and pure greed for land that was beyond any reasonable dispute.
