When I lived in the country 12 mi. out side of Milwaukee, WI, in 1947/48, we rented a small cottage about 20' x 20' behind a roadhouse/bar/restaurant. We had a cat, Rusty, who was not allowed by my Dad on any furniture, anytime. My Mom used to mix a raw egg in Rusty's milk every morning. Rusty also would only eat canned Rival dog food. Rusty's coat was so shiny, she almost glowed in the dark. In exchange for all this pampering, my Dad put her in the attic for a week at a time twice a year, she learned very quickly that her "Get Out of Jail" card was to get rid of all of the mice in the attic and she became quite good at it, too. BTW, this is the same Rusty I once posted about her saving my 6-yr old life. About a year later, she lost a race across the highway to a County dump truck. I still miss her.
