1- It is in our nation's best interest to have constant critical examination of our nation's political position.

I know of no one who opposes this POV.

2- It's fine for anti-war activists to meet with our nation's enemies, depending on what happens at the meetings. A meeting implies discussion, which is good. As long as the anti-war activist doesn't endanger the US's interests during the meeting the meeting in and of itself is not wrong. What else is the idea of an opposing party/viewpoint if the people with the opposing view are not given the ability to express themselves?

This is one of the more stupid remarks I've seen posted on this board. Anti-war activists, without the support of the federal government, can only cause problems by meeting with the enemy. What possible good can come from an anti-American near-teenager having "discussions" with our enemy? None, whatsoever. How can we be sure such an idiot won't cost American lives? We can't.

In other words, what is someone who objects to the Vietnam war supposed to do when given the opportunity to meet with the Vietnamese leadership?

We have no ability to stop them from doing as they please -- however, they should be mindful that they could cost American soldiers' lives, and that if they do, they could be subjected to the death penalty. I have no idea whether Kerry's actions endangered American lives or prolonged their mistreatment. Some of those who were in the hands of the VC certainly claimed his actions did, and I would tend to believe them absent any evidence to the contrary.

I don't recommend Kerry be shot at the firing squad. I'm just happy he'll never be president.
