Cool.

People who study non-human nature, become more and more at peace with it, almost romantically so.

People who study human nature, become more and more distrustful, even fearful of their fellows, almost pathologically so. The idea of a boogie man becomes more and more real as we learn of the common heinous criminal actions that are perpetrated in our societies. The most scary of which is the idea that some of our members feed on the flesh of others: whether literally, as in the case of canabals, or figuratively, as in the case of causing the human suffering to others for some petty personal benefit.

It is no wonder that science fiction comes up with monsters that are have anthropomorphic characteristics.

"With embryonic stem cell research and cloning it looks like we are there..."

Interesting argument.....

And, if all research into 'embryonic stem cells' (forgetting and excluding for now all studies utilizing such techniques as 'nuclear transfer', etc., where sperm and egg cells are not BOTH required) was legally restricted to simply making use of frozen blastocytes from the discard pile at IVF clinics --- and use of all other potential sources was banned... and all financial payments were banned so that only donations were acceptable --- would your argument still apply?

Would this be 'killing'?

(If so, then ALL IVF clinics should be shut down IMMEDIATELY... since greater then 90% of all the blastocytes they create get discarded, and are NEVER implanted, never given the 'opportunity' to develop into children.)
