I don't believe it is that simple but I would like to take a stab at the learned scenario.

When I was growing up there was a huge effort to protect kids from being 'sexualized' prior to adolescence. The culture encouraged the heterosexual role model without giving a lot away about the details. So by the time we had raging hormones most of us went that direction without thinking too much about it, and never looked back.

I adored my uncles and the older male role models in the community. I would have jumped off of cliffs for any of them. Had any one of them violated that trust by introducing me to homosexual experiences I really can't say that I would have known what to do. I probably would have tried to please him because I was taught to honor and trust my elders. I am sure it would have been an awful tramma for me.

You said earlier that most homosexuals report having known that they were gay at a very early age. How? Kids don't really have sexual identities at very early ages. My guess is that at least some of those kids were sexualized by a significant adult that they loved.

We know also that there are hormonal differences that make the distinctions between femininity and masculinity unclear for some folks and even reversed from the traditional roles for other people.

Then we have unexplainable examples like Rock Hudson. Probably most fall in the unknown causes category...just a guess.

What I have witnessed in the gay community is more of a retisence to judge promiscuity than in the straight community.

One guy on another thread recently argued in several posts that it is caused by a virus to the mother during the first tri-mester. That's a little over the edge if you ask me.

Well Grainne, I believe what the Bible says. I figure you don't so you don't accept it's authority. But so you know where I stand I will tell you. Homosexuality, along with many other voluntary acts, is named as a sin. God would not punish it as a sin if it was something that could not be avoided. Like a birth defect. There was plenty of that at that time as there is today. Birth defects are something that went wrong. Unavoidable. It's not an action that someone commits during their lives as a sexual sin is. A sin is an action done voluntarily and the person doing it has control over it. That's why the Bible calls it a sin. It's a voluntary controllable action. Like stealing, assault, rape, and so on. Is there a rape gene? An assault gene? pretty soon everything will be excusable, unavoidable. I'm bad. I'm just made that way. Through circumstances either willingly or forced the "behavior" is spread.
