Well... DUH!

That's the same thing France and Japan claim. (Of course, you also get higher taxes to pay for the higher government spending as well.)

If we SUBSIDIZED software, we'd have cheaper software. If we subsidized healthcare, we might have cheaper drug prices (at least for some people). Same is true for ANY industry.

But taxpayer-paid subsidies of WHATEVER industry are still anti-free trade... and arguably very BAD economic policy.

Not any more! That's what my previous posts pointed out: the developing nations of the world have united behind the principle of NO MORE TARRIF REDUCTIONS FOR MANUFACTURED GOODS, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, OR FINANCIAL SERVICES, UNLESS AGRICULTURAL SUBSIDIES ARE REDUCED AS WELL.

...What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Free Trade or no free trade, that seems to be the demand.
