To my mind it makes no sense screwing around with pepcid or tagamet. They only work about half as well as Prilosec (based on degree of acid suppression) and they only work for a few hours, so you need multiple dosing. (Prilosec works for close on 24 hours). The H2 blockers were true wonder drugs when they were all there was, but to my mind they've now been superseded. No evidence that Prilosec is any less safe - they are both OTC.
