DJ GM To Shut Baltimore, Md., Van Assembly Plant

BALTIMORE (AP)--General Motors (GM) officials said Tuesday the company's assembly plant on Broening Highway in Baltimore will close in 2005. Company officials delivered the news to employees during a meeting Tuesday morning. The exact date of the closure hasn't been set. About 70% of the employees are said to be eligible for retirement. The plant makes Chevy Astro vans and GMC Safari vans. Sales of both models has diminished in recent years.
