If the oil industry in Iran was nationalized when Mossadegh was deposed, it was because he did it. It may have remained "nationalized" in name only, but the profits went elsewhere. A "rigged election" is one that doesn't come out the way you want it to. (Kinda like "activist judges.")

According the 1906 Iranian constitution, the Shah was supposed to be a ceremonial ruler only, the nation a constitutional monarchy. National officials were elected right up to the 1952 coup. We installed the Shah and facilitated the dissolution of the democratic character of their government. The festering resentment is what eventually crystallized the revolution.
