From an insurgents POV, having US troops diffused through Fallujah is a much better situation then having them holed up in a fortified camp 10 miles outside the city. The fact that the insurgents didn't invite us in, but instead died by the 1000's to keep us out is the only cause for hope. Maybe they will stay stupid long enough for us to shove the whole mess on the elected government in a couple of months.

Insurgents need people around. Cities are better than jungles for modern insurgencies. Go vacation in a jungle, you will enjoy. I recommend Costa Rica.

I suspect that attacking Fallujah will prompt more hatred of the USA, thus providing more fodder, not less. Hopefully not intelligent fodder. I think that Bush's and the USA's number 1 problem is in rhetoric, not so much actions. Just read this thread. We should make it clear that we value Iraqi lives just as we value those of our own troops. When the Brass are quoted pep talking the troops for an assault, they should deliberately point out that we would save as many lives of Iraqis including the insurgent enemies as our technology, skill and bravery allow, that this is what the noble American Warrior is all about. Unfortunately I suspect that such a pep talk would shock the US military mindset as well. Until we figure that out, I think the Arabs will find images of Marines shooting wounded insurgents more in line with American values as they see it.
