This is a checking of the selective service lists. The actual draft has been abolished but preparations for a draft never went away. This is not a sign that any draft is planned or likely.

The main reasons I don't think there will be a draft have little to do with the fact that Bush said there will be no draft (its only a minor reason). A draft would be unpopular enough to ruin Bush's 2nd term. The military is not calling for a draft. A draft is not needed to meet our current manpower requirements. And finally a draft would probably decrease the average readiness , moral, and training level of the US military.

We'll see.........
