re: I thought all we had to do was simply roll back 1/3 of Bush's tax cut, and Social Security will be saved.

Who said that? It's an equivalent amount, that's all.

re: By the way, does our $7.5T federal debt include loans taken out of the SS trust fund?

I don't know how they handle the accounting, but smoke and mirrors comes to mind.

re: If only Social Security were equivalent to an IRA. The truth is that SS wasn't set up to be that way in the first place.

Obviously.

Actually, I think privatizing a part of SS is a good idea. We just can't afford it. Implementing it would take a system that will at some point be in fiscal trouble, at the margin, and turning it into fiscal disaster right now. When we are already in over our heads in debt.

I also think a 50 foot yacht would be a good idea. But I just can't afford it.
