It is not the final number, it is the distribution. People are at their peak earning period between 35 and roughly 47 years old. As the tail of the baby boom moves out of that period our economy may tank in a big way.

Immigrants typically arrive at age 35, and exhibit the economic behavior typical of the typical 35 year old. Give us 5 million more immigrants and we will not experience a depression by the end of the decade.

It may be a while. I heard somewhere that if we built 2 story townhomes throughout all of Texas, all 7 billion people on earth could live there.
