Give them a break. They are simply coming clean now that the elections are over. The, "We support our troops but not the war" chant was phony in the first place. I am much happier with a more honest discussion of the issues. The troops (except for about 19% of them) are pro- in this conflict.

I think way too much is being made of this--I think my last post expressed my feelings pretty well--but I will try to explain again. The people I know were really disappointed that the troops overwhelmingly supported Bush. There was one poignant case in Oregon where a mother's last email to her son, who actually had just died in Iraq, was to the effect that wasn't it wonderful that Bush won.

If you are fighting a war that a lot of reasonable people believe was a huge mistake, and you overwhelmingly support the guy that sent you there, and you vote with your feet by participating, and you vote for that president's reelection, you have made a conscious choice. I think the anti-war people genuinely wanted for as few people to die as possible, and I think they care about the troops. It is just really frustrating to watch people make decisions that you don't agree with when you also believe they are harming our national security.
