This is one area where I agree with you and some new Republicans (like Arnold) also agree with you. Republicans need to wake up on this issue IMO or risk losing in the future. The young people understand that we do not have limitless resources, and will not tolerate a Republican party in 4 or 8 years from now which has the same stance it has held for decades, namely, that the environment takes a back seat to everything else.

This means no ANWAR, no logging of natl parks by private cos, and no snowmobiling in natl parks.

Why don't conservatives work on conserving something - like the environment?

We already do. Most hunters are conservatives and hunters do more to conserve the environment than leftists.

As a group, hunters are more interested in wildlife issues and contribute more to conservation efforts than the general public, according to a recent study by Ducks Unlimited, the world's leading wetlands and waterfowl conservation organization.
