Powell is going to do what he did when he previously retired from public service: Make big bucks as a motivational speaker and probably write a book. I doubt that he would take a full time gig and I suspect that his wife would still veto a run for public office.

The GOP might be smart to give Hillary a pass in 2006 and run a second tier candidate. It would only empower her to beat a top tier guy like Rudy. I'm assuming that Rudy wants to run for president. We don't need to turn Hillary into a giant killer. Pataki, who probably does not visualize himself as a second tier candidate, would fit the bill. He would give her a good fight, pin her down on the issues, and probably lose by a four or five point margin.
