"My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God's truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish poison. To-day, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow myself to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice... And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows. For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people.

-Adolf Hitler, in a speech on 12 April 1922 (Norman H. Baynes, ed. The Speeches of Adolf Hitler, April 1922-August 1939, Vol. 1 of 2, pp. 19-20, Oxford University Press, 1942)

To deny the influence of Christianity on Hitler and its role in World War II, means that you must ignore history and bar yourself forever from understanding how this atrocity occurred.

"It means that what the connection between Hitler's actions and Nietzsche's thought are seen by a great many people other than myself so it means a great deal in terms of argument"

I disagree that it means anything in terms of our argument. Newspapers are not the work of scholars. They write whatever they wish to write to sell copy. You did not make any argument for Nietzsche as an anti-Semite or socialist by referencing a picture in a paper in 1981. Indeed, the facts clearly show that Nietzsche was as far from Socialism or anti-Semitism as he was from being a devotee of Christianity. Whether or not such a picture in a paper shows that others were as misinformed as yourself is irrelevant--as I said. My reference to the bones of Moses in the National Enquirer was intended to make the distinction clear to you that a picture in a paper does not muster any argument that has scholarly value.

"The other comment (beside having nothing to do with anything)is gratuitously silly and purposely insulting, but then I expect that sort of behavior from you by now."

CRAP! That is precisely the sort of nonsense found in the National Enquirer. Referencing it is NOT silly; and it is NOT insulting. I was making the point that a "picture in a paper" no more supports an argument for Nietzsche as a believer in socialism than it supports that Moses murdered an Egyptian.

"we are just now beginning to see the deleterious ramifications that such worldviews have on society and the moral and ethical vacuum that is created when every mans god stares at them in the mirror every morning."

REALLY?? The only wars I see going on are based on religious people hating one another and murdering with the pride and arrogance peculiar to people of the TRUTH. The rare psychotic who sees God in the mirror in the morning and goes back to sleep can hardly be compared to armies of insane warriors murdering one another because they read in some primitive old book that it was the "HOLY" thing to do.

I wish religious people of every stripe could have their own planet...and the rest of us would be free to honor our universe and to follow where reason and the heart leads...
