>> by definition, no.

Whose definition? Care to elaborate?

>> no. Vast difference in intent.

Really? There I was thinking the purpose of Imperialism was economic interest and control of resources. I seem to recall more than a few people describing the necessaty of our presence in the Persian Gulf due to such interests. But go ahead and do elaborate on how the intent is different.

>> Not for the U.S. Quite the opposite by definition. Or are you now suggesting we ARE selling cola at gun point?

There you go with "definition" again? What is it? BTW, history proves you wrong. Through out history regimes that would choose not to trade with US meet violent ends...may be you want to look back at how US-Japan relations began.

>> preventing an invasion of the free(free to trade, for instance - a good thing for all without question), which has nothing to do with imperialism.

Really?! Hmmm...who appointed us the world guardian...and boy are we such good people to be spending so much money and lives to protect the ungrateful world...why do we do it? What's in it for us?

>> You seem to fail to recognize the stark differences between freedom and imperialism.

" I have the greatest admiration for your propaganda. Propaganda in the West is carried out by experts who have had the best training in the world -- in the field of advertizing -- and have mastered the techniques with exceptional proficiency ... Yours are subtle and persuasive; ours are crude and obvious ... I think that the fundamental difference between our worlds, with respect to propaganda, is quite simple. You tend to believe yours ... and we tend to disbelieve ours. "

<suggesting we ARE selling cola at gun point> Nixon sold the Sovjet Union Pepsi.

That was good for his campaign financing.

That's easy...preventing an invasion of the free(free to trade, for instance - a good thing for all without question), which has nothing to do with imperialism.

You seem to fail to recognize the stark differences between freedom and imperialism.

I laughed hard at that; clearly you have rose colored glasses on a bit too tight...

Question: what would you propose as a response if Middle Eastern countries decided to stop selling oil to the US?

the stark differences between freedom of slavery and imperialism??

As well as being blind, color-blind and also brain-dead??

However, it is cheaper in a one-party system, more efficient campaign financing.

help me here: do you really believe yourself when you post things like this: "You seem to fail to recognize the stark differences between freedom and imperialism."?
