Distillates are the source of jet fuel and diesel for armored vehicles. I have heard discussion that worries of fuel contamination in Iraq made lead the US to import all requirements from friendly sources. It was emphasized that means Europe or the Western hemisphere and definitely not SA or Kuwait or Turkey. I don't know the source of fuel currently used, but perhaps there is a need to increase stockpiles which are not included in the EIA reports.
