kumar-- <<"and I'm learning 2nd hand">> Trying to understand is difficult and appreciated by every vet. However, there is no 'learning 2nd hand'. It is impossible. Although it looked like it was easy for that young man to kill the enemy, it was not. There are emotions involved that until you kill cannot be described. There are no names of those. Firing at a far off target and seeing it fall allows one to always think the target dropped. was missed, barely wounded, etc. At close range those things are impossible. Knowing a life was taken, even an enemy that is trying to kill you is not easy. It never leaves you. The closer you are to that person the harder it is to do, even if it is a reflex action of self-preservation. Killing someone up close is never easy, never forgotten. You KNOW you did it. As mentioned earlier, snipers see their target's eyes before the trigger is pulled. When one takes out an enemy by hand, those faces, the smell of their last breath, never leaves you. Believe me, those faces stay with you.
