Sorry, I was referring to American meddling in general. True, we have never had an empire of any great extend in the conventional sense. We have meddled very extensively in foreign countries including assassinations of democratically elected leaders. We then get some leader more suited to our tastes who we keep on the dole in one fashion or another. Some such as Mobutu proved quite unfortunate for their country. Most of the more extreme cases where during the cold war, so hopefully it is becoming history.

He conquered some of Central America. If he had succeeded in forming an empire it would have been his personal empire, not an empire of the United States. He was an American but the fact that Hitler was born in Braunau, Austria, didn't make the Hitler's imperial vision an Austrian one.

If he had succeeded I bet much of Central America would be part of the USA.
