Too bad he already spent all of his "Credibility Capital" on the Bogus Bush Iraqi WMD scam.

The comment about Powell's credibility is quite valid.

Look at the parallels:

- Iraqi opposition group (Chalabi) makes claims.
- Administration uses claims in part to justify action.
- Most claims totally discredited and Chalabi is on the run from the law!
- US in the wrong war at the wrong time LOL

NOW...

- Iranian opposition group makes claims. By the way, these people have been supported informally (and perhaps in other ways we do not now know) in the past.

This administration has for a long time had its eye on Iran. I do not put it past them to try any angle to keep that thread of threat rising using terrorists groups, mistruths, cherry picked intel, whatever.

Meanwhile, the "Iranian opposition group" is a known terrorist group having been involved in killing Americans in the past, targetting civilians in the past. The leader of the NCRI is the same leader of MEK. Funny, these same people were accused of fighting the US in Iraq, although I found this rather less than credible. Saddam is said to have funded MEK since they share a mutual enemy. Now the US is making noises to them.

Clearly our track record in supporting thugs and terrorists is not terribly good; the track record in using them as informants - millions paid to Chalabi and look at the criminal that he is - is not stellar. Why should this group be any different?

And why should we be supporting one thuggish group to overthrow another?

And the bigger question is - given the US intentions in the region, should any sovereign country there be questioned for seeking to protect itself?

What is Mujahedeen-e-Khalq?
Mujahedeen-e-Khalq (MEK) is the largest and most militant group opposed to the Islamic Republic of Iran. Also known as the People’s Mujahedeen Organization of Iran, MEK is led by husband and wife Massoud and Maryam Rajavi. MEK was added to the U.S. State Department’s list of foreign terrorist groups in 1997 and to the European Union’s terrorist list in 2002 because its attacks have often killed civilians. Despite MEK’s violent tactics, the group’s strong stand against Iran—part of President Bush’s “axis of evil”—and pro-democratic image have won it support among some U.S. and European lawmakers.
