Effect of Sears, Kmart deal on KC is unclear

Sears, Roebuck and Co. will buy as many as 54 Kmart stores for as much
as $621 million in cash, Kmart Corp. said Wednesday.

Kmart, a subsidiary of Kmart Holding Corp. (Nasdaq: KMRT), based in
Troy, Mich., has 12 Kmart stores and about 1,200 employees in the
Kansas City area. The number and location of Kmart stores Sears will
buy, and the purchase price, haven't been determined but should be
within 60 days for most of the stores and within 75 days for the
remaining ones, Kmart said in a written release.
