Florida may be a little weird at times but I believe it is still, technically, part of the United States.

How little you understand the reality or the law of nature. Your "tribe" has always lost. The only real reminiscences of your "tribe" lives in Arabia. Through out history, not even once a civilization with tribal mentality has lasted. The world has belonged and continues to belong to those who manage to enlist the support of others in their cause. And you can never do this so long as you push a tribal mentality. It is counterintuitive but it is in serving one another that we are all best served.

What you fail to understand is the very process that morphed extended families into marauding tribes into villages then into feudal systems and eventually into nations. At every stage proponents of your methods lost. It was not so much that various clan leaders were any less loyal to their tribe than to the nation states. Rather it is that they realized by that over time the peace dividend to their tribe would more than make up for any temporary instant gains they may collect from fighting each other.

Marauding hordes do not understand that ethics is not just something "nice" that your mommy tried to instill in you. Ethics is the set of protocols mankind has come to develop for its own best progress and survival.

To call your understanding of natural law limited would be an understatement. I doubt if you have studied primates and their interactions to any great depths. Despite what people like you think, it is not the biggest and meanest gorilla who makes it to the top. Rather it is the gorilla who has the most support of the other apes that becomes the leader. This support is gained not by beating them into submission, but by aiding in child care and sharing the food. Only amongst the solitary predators does your brand of survival has any merits. Solitary predators however are a very small (and mostly extinct) subset of animals. Feel free to join them at will.

<it is always troublesom to liberals to face reality...>

Unlike the un-liberal realists currently in charge, who told us:

they will throw flowers on our tanks
it's just a few dead-enders and Baathist remnants
be patient, we'll find those WMD sooner or later
Iraq will be a shining example of freedom and democracy
we can reduce our occupation troops to 40,000 by summer 2003
the list is long....

Just keep in mind that all empires eventually crumble, for one reason or another...
