these definitions are fluid. It was madness to build all those weapons without the intention of using them. What kept the intention in check was the rational mind, when this goes, all bets are off so I'm not sure that this is a learnt lesson, yet, or for all time. It might be a plausible response whereby MAD worked by depending on the sanity we associate with being rational - what are the implications of this when dealing with an insane enemy, why not give irrationality a shot, what do you have to lose if they are crazy anyway. If they are not crazy, what is the problem.
