Rock_nj > I think Orwellianism is a better term to describe contemporary American society

Yes, there's a lot to be said for it. Some people, however, think good, old-fashioned fascism comes even closer.

>>Is the U.S becoming a fascist state under the U.S Bush Administration?

1. Yes - Bush and Co. parade out patriotic mumbo jumbo non stop.

2. Yes - The U.S now has 2.3 million in people in jail

3. Yes - War on Terrorism ostensibly against fundamentalist fanatics widened to include secular Muslims such as Iraq who had nothing to do with 9/11

4. Yes – U.S 5% of the world’s population yet undertakes more than half the worlds defense spending

5. Yes – Or at least the Moral majority would like it to be the situation.

6. Yes – The U.S has one of the most concentrated and controlled mass medias in the world. U.S security agencies admit having assets in some 400 media organisations across the country. Unlike most western countries no main stream left wing press has been allowed to function since the anti communist hysteria of the 1950s.

7. Yes – Possibly no country on earth, even the most dictatorial regimes, seemingly have as much obsession with national security as the U.S.

8. Yes – Under Bush effectively the separation between the State and Religion has been totally blurred if not destroyed.

9. Yes – Power in the U.S resides almost exclusively in the hands of big business.

10. Yes – Unions in the U.S have the least power and rights of any western nation bar none.

11. Yes – Thinking people in the U.S are labeled as ‘Dangerous liberals’ and heavily monitored by the state and their cronies.

12. Yes – The U.S is not only one of the most violent countries in the world (for a country not in a state of Civil War) it also has huge numbers of police compared to any other western country. There are many parts of the U.S where the rule of law exists only as a means of repressing of the poor. Other western nations have less crime because we have decent support mechanisms - free health and education and proper welfare and control weapons.

13. Yes – Under Bush almost all Government contracts have been directed towards political corporations who give him campaign contributions. Clearly the Bush Administration is the most corrupt government in U.S history.

14. Yes - The Presidential Election in 2000 was clearly fraudulent. New automatic voting machines will make it easy to engage in fraud in the future. All other western democracies use written ballots to ensure honest elections.<<
