If they buyback shares, do they stay on the balance sheet as treasury stock or do they actually retire the shares?

What we need is for some of the good accountant VC types on the Cisco board to help us out.

AMAT increased its cash from $1.4B to $2.3B over the last year according to this
biz.yahoo.com
so I'm not too worried where they got the cash as it seems they generate plenty from operations.
They increased current assets by nearly $2B despite spending 0.5B to buy back shares...

so they are doing a good job at increasing shareholder equity and increasing book value but I'd prefer a dividend "entitlement" to shareholders over insiders.
