The US continues to threaten Iran. I guess you have not been paying attention.

There is no reason for Iran to acquire nukes unless it is making offensive plans. No one has threatened Iran, its principal rival, Saddam, is neutralized, and the United States has shown no propensity to build a case for invasion (and it pretty tied up for the next few years). If anything, they are making it more likely that they will suffer military strikes.

Good points.

We should not forget that the justification for all this nuclear work is that Iran needs nuclear power generation plants, a justification which is absurd in an oil-soaked country.

A subtle danger that lies in Iran's nuclearization lies in the possibility that Iran might be protected by the Chinese in any confrontation with the US. The Chinese may wish to flex their muscle to protect their interest in Iranian oil.

China is not going to be a spectator to developments in the Mideast for very long.
