I agree. I wouldn't let my daughter go either. I think we have a duty to defend our country, but this war was quite obviously not defensive, on our part. Losing a child in this war would be like losing a child in Vietnam. I can't think of anything worse than losing a child in a war you consider to be immoral and/or a huge folly.

I have read, and I don't remember where offhand, that the new draft would include women and that it was going to be structured like the Israeli compulsory service. Instead of the old lottery system every boy and girl coming of age would have to serve the country in some capacity for one year. I also recently read the draft legislation was soundly voted down in Congress. So Bush would have to perform a miracle to get it passed. Like conjure up another terrorist attack in the US to get the people scared enough to pressure Congress into passing it.
