IMO some people vote their ideology over their economic interests. The abortion issue creates a lock on what I would guess is 30-35% of republican voters. They are willing to sign away any accountablity of their candidates on social justice or economic issues as long as they are pro choice. They are one issue voters. It is a very dumb choice IMO, but one that is catered to by the recent announcements of the catholic church and other religious leaders in the country. Every thing else gets put on the back burner.
