I'm sure too. When we "liberated" Europe we really did liberate them, from the Germans. When we "liberated" Iraq, we liberated the Iraqis from their own (granted, dictatorial) government. Such "liberations", when they take place internally, are called "coups" or "revolutions"- when they are caused by an outside aggressor it's a war of aggression followed by occupation, and frequently a puppet government. And I think we all know what has happened to many of America's puppet governments. Putting aside the question of the morality of going around the globe messing with sovereign states and their ability to rule themselves, it just doesn't work very well. People aren't grateful when outsiders come and mess with their government- even when the government is bad, because viscerally they feel, at some level, a tribal instinct to reject outside influences. If aliens from another planet, with an infinitely superior system of government (and you have to accept this part of the premise- the aliens system is INFINITELY better than our system), came to the US and "liberated" us from our current system, in order to give us a much better one (a system that would, for example, eliminate the need to incarcerate a huge percentage of the black population)- I don't think many citizens of the US would be very grateful. In fact, I suspect many here might actually take up arms against these helpful aliens. :-)
