"Better to take the hit."

not when there are ways to deter it. Would you have said better to take the hit from soviets and not respond to an attack on Washington back then? But the question is deeper than that. If there was no clear policy of deterrence back then, how much more aggressive would the soviets have been. Remember the Cuban Missile Crisis and how close we came to nuclear war because the means of deterrence were not clear. I am not advocating blowing up anything--i am trying to get at what will deter bin laden and those that help them. I am not willing to take a nuclear hit on this country and i am shocked that you are so cavalier with your commments. Mike
