The fact of a nasty divorce does not mean one makes up total fiction. Having made the statement that she saw Bush snort cocaine at Camp David WITH HER OWN PUBLICIST AS A WITNESS (this is the only reason Kitty Kelley's publisher went with this part of the story), she recanted it only after Neil Bush made a threat to her safety involving a dark alley.
