U.S. Senator-elect Barack Obama named Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle's top aide as his chief of staff and said he has been named to three legislative committees, include the Foreign Relations Committee.

Pete Rouse, a 28-year Capitol Hill veteran, will take over as Mr. Obama's chief of staff, a role he's played since 1985 for Sen. Daschle, a South Dakota Democrat who lost his bid for re-election. Mr. Rouse also served briefly as chief of staff to Illinois Senator Richard Durbin.

In addition to sitting on the Foreign Relations Committee, the Sen.-elect will serve on the Environment and Public Works Committee and the Veterans Affairs Committee.
