I've found that Laser printers use less cartridges than the ink jet but only do black & white (to keep it in the lower price range). So for my need of doing 95% B&W a Laser printer which cost about twice the cost of a color ink jet, the fact that I don't have to replace the cartridge any where near as often is a good trade off to me.
