I still think Iranians are the most Westernized Middle Easterners I've met.

I agree. But they still are not you and me. I used to have my appointment setters not call them because they were so tough to deal with. We had several Iranian nightclubs in So Calif. When you went there, the women would dance with each other while the men would set and watch.

They are quite Westernized. Well, so are Lebanese and Turks, but I still think Iranians are the most Westernized Middle Easterners I've met.

I grew up with the kids of an Iranian family that fled the fall of the Shah. You would never have suspected they were not American born and bred, except maybe that the Mrs was a bit more subservient than usual for Americans. Mr. Bahlavoni coached my little league team, fer cryin out loud. Spoke perfect US English except Mrs. Bahlavoni, who spoke with a faint accent.

The Israelis understand the Americans best imo because the values are the most similar and they understand how decisions get made in a democracy. This last point eludes most other Middle Easterners, who don't have much experience with democracies.
