I tend to think a little more -- conspiratorial, I guess. Why not just give the signal that they are concerned?? -- get enough people looking down, so that there is "support" from time to time on the way down. Whole discussion sounds like they are trying to engineer a little support for the dollar.

What CBs don't want is a huge quick move to the downside -- they'd like the dollar to drift down slowly -- in a controlled manner.

The Japanese aren't stupid -- US consumer can't go on buying carp at this rate forever -- there has to be a "plan" for the future that allows for an adjustment.
