Horgad, we fooled ourselves the same way in Vietnam. Many Americans believed that when we burned down villages, we were helping the Vietnamese people, or, at least those in South Vietnam. Tet changed that for everyone. It was pretty obvious that if the majority of Vietnamese supported us, we would have had early warning of the offensive. True, we won the battle, as we did every pitched battle, but we had to admit that the majority of even the South Vietnamese just wanted us out and the war over.
