Hi RtS,

Keep in mind my primary perspective is from a GM dealer/employee - all of my life.

I've seen Japanese market share gain for decades as the Yen had a 20-25 % advantage to the dollar.

Now as we approach parity - The Japanese no longer have a currency advantage as we BOTH go to China for lower cost components.

This "collapse" of the Dollar is simply a re-evaluation that promotes equality vs the intervened Low Yen advantage - they very much want to preserve for their exporting companies i.e. Toyota/Honda.

The Chinese are doing to the Japanaese what the Japanese have been doing to Domestic manufacturers for the last 2 decades.

Europes currency is high due to high relative interest rates and the carry play. These guys aren't smart enough to come out of the rain - although they are bringing down their tax rates.

They still have a huge pension problem - that no one wants to tackle. It won't go away until they bust up the public unions.

Our future economic growth will very much hinge on the return of our manufacturing base and the employment that can be created with American manufacturers operating at 85% caoacity vs 75%.

This is the next wave of growth.

I expect our stock market to do very well as we internally create jobs/wealth from a solid manufacturing growth domestically.

Just my take on a good thing(lower dollar) that is creating a lot of noise/fear.

When our markets grow and lead the other markets - there will be a huge flow of money to our markets - EVEN with a lower dollar.

Bob

RE: "...world instability could strengthen the U.S. Dollar - for example a Middle East event..."

Have I been tuned to the Twilight Zone? It seems to me that we have as much "world instability" as we can safely take and that includes a "Middle East event", a war in Iraq.
