OT

With regard to the NBA game / fight that took place

Several years ago I posted that todays pro athletes were different than those of the past. In the "better days gone by" era of sports many athletes were characters. They'd sneak out at night and party, womanize etc. etc. but they weren't trouble makers. Many of the athletes of today are bad asses instead of characters. They're young men who were advanced in school because they could catch or throw a ball. In many cases there were no ramifications for legal issues (beatings, drug dealing, sexual assault etc etc) and there were no consequences for bad grades. What we now see in many of our pro sports are the problems with putting athletic ability above educational achievement and behavior. We are reaping the rewards for fostering a system that rewarded people for all the wrong reasons. This is a true reflection of the decay in our society that has taken place over the past 20 to 30 years. I think its time that we as sports fans, parents and people send the message to high schools, colleges and pro sports that we will no longer tolerate the results of putting athletic ability above educational and community achievement.

Like my buddy John Kerry, I never miss a chance to watch a game at Lambert field.
